ECEC educators asked to support ‘Get the Facts’ campaign to boost immunisation levels

Early childhood education and care (ECEC) educators and advocates have been asked to play their part in sharing information from the Federal Department of Health as part of the next phase of the Childhood Immunisation Education Campaign. 

The new phase, known as ‘Get the Facts’ has been developed to encourage Australian parents and carers to get their children vaccinated. The campaign focuses on several elements, including: 

• The importance of vaccinating on time 
• The protections offered by vaccines
• Addressing concerns about vaccine safety.

Currently, a departmental spokesperson said, National and State childhood immunisation coverage rates are close to the target of 95 per cent for children at five years of age, however, there are still areas with lower coverage and some children are receiving their vaccinations later than recommended. 

Children who come from families where vaccinations are delayed or skipped expose not only themselves to risk of catching serious diseases, but also endanger those in the community who are unprotected. 

The eight week ‘Get the Facts’ campaign will run nationally on television, supported by a range of online channels. A series of posters, brochures and videos may be downloaded from the Childhood Immunisation Education Campaign website.
