Children at St Nicholas Branxton delighted by new arrival who teaches healthy eating

The children of St Nicholas Early Education Branxton were delighted to have a new face appear in the kitchen window recently, with puppet Sully joining centre chef Sonia as an innovative companion who aims to reinforce the values of healthy eating, and engage the children in a healthy food adventure.

Sully pops up in the centre’s kitchen window, offering an opportunity for the children to participate in interactive and educational “food adventures”. He joined the team in late July with the following note:

“Hi everyone – Sully here!

Boy oh boy, I am super excited to finally be able to come and help Sonia out in the kitchen. You will see me hanging out in the kitchen (well, in the kitchen window) and I might even ask you to join me in some fun food activities, so keep an eye out for me, come and say ‘hi’ and let’s go on amazing food adventures together!

Bon Appetit, everyone!

P.S. Sonia just told me that I can go and hang out with the children in their rooms…oh boy, oh boy, I can’t wait!”

The inspiration behind Sully’s appearance, a St Nicholas spokesperson said, was that while educators can make “endless plans” to engage children on the theme of healthy eating, “the true magic of teaching and learning comes from spontaneous, genuine and thoughtful interactions, provisions and relationships with children” which Sully helps facilitate.

Allowing the children to hear messages and important information from Sully makes the learning engaging, digestible and fun.
