Preschool places for Parkville

Victorian Minister for Early Childhood Education Jenny Mikakos announced today that the Victorian Government will provide $201,661 to upgrade the Melbourne University Family Club Co-operative, which has been operating from its current facilities for almost fifty years.

The funding, which is a part of the Children’s Facilities Capital Program, will be used to rebuild the nursery, renovate bathrooms, and upgrade flooring.

The Avenues Early Learning Centre will also benefit, receiving $650,000 to construct a new long day care facility in Parkville. The $9.2 million centre will provide 48 long day care places, and 132 kindergarten places.

More than 50 projects have been funded through the 2018-19 Children’s Facilities Capital Program, which delivers new and upgraded facilities to Victorian centres.

Labor have announced that they plan to build 785 new kindergartens and upgrade 170 more if re-elected, as part of the larger $5 billion three year old kinder reform.
